“It just doesn’t do it justice,” Mrs Monaghan said.
“You think you’d know what it would be like, but actually no words describe how out of this world painful it is.”
On Tuesday at 8.21pm Mrs Monaghan gave birth to beautiful baby girl, Amelia Matulis Monaghan at Katherine Hospital.
Her waters broke before contractions started and after a 48-hour wait doctors decided to induce.
“I was induced at midday and I wanted a natural birth.
“I didn’t want morphine because it makes you drowsy, which can affect the baby.
“And with an epidural I didn’t want to feel out of control.
“I just had a bit of gas to take the edge off,” she said.
The couple, who moved from Melbourne two years ago for work, said that more children are possibly on the cards, but drugs are a sure thing next time.
“It’s always a unique experience, and I’m glad I did it, but you have to know your limits, you could have hours of labour left,” Mrs Monaghan said.
Mr and Mrs Monaghan said they were especially happy with the staff at Katherine Hospital.
“The midwifes really know what they are doing.
“It can be hard when it’s remote because you don’t know what to expect.
“We really want to put out a special thanks to Elizabeth and Erin for their support,” Mr Monaghan said.
