According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Tindal's weather instruments recorded a peak heat of 42.6 degrees yesterday as we enter our eighth consecutive day of 40 plus degree heat.
Some weather websites say the town recorded 43 degrees.
The bureau is forecasting 42 degree days over this weekend before dropping by a degree or two for the next week.
Heatwave protocols have been put in place for some sporting matches across the Top End today.
Tindal's official peak yesterday was 42.6 degrees, after the 42.7 degree day on Thursday.
Katherine's record heat record is 46.2 degrees recorded in town on October 29, 1991.
Tindal has hosted the bureau's instruments for 34 years so Thursday was a record there, but still short of Katherine's overall record.
